Queen Elizabeth II's love of people empowered her to warm chilled hearts with her radiant beam of relatable humanity, as exemplified by her love for her Corgis, and underscored by her immutable charm.

As is the case with any public figure, she had her critics, with some being more tasteful than others.

While we should not turn our backs to the validity of their experience, minimize their profound suffering, or turn a deaf ear to the lessons they cry out for us to hear, nor too should we ignore the reality that the truth of that era of history will remained confined to the shadows, thus denying us a true understanding of the complexities of her time. In my final analysis, born into a world influenced by the sins of her forefathers, I find no evidence of ill-intent on the part of the Queen.

None of us will live a life of value in service to others, without hindsight illuminating our failings.

But while truth is unyieldingly objective, we must also not let the light shed on those failings, forever cloak our successes in darkness.

Thrust into the role in a time of transition, and caught in between a fading era of more regrettable political conventions and the inevitable demise of colonialism, she navigated a world not of her own making, one that would be overwhelming to nearly any one of us, with grace and dignity.

While her title defined her power, however, it most certainly did not wholly confer it. The strength she showed serving in the Armed Forces during World War II, and the dignity displayed in handling delicate situations throughout the decades was that of a woman born for destiny.

She was a woman who wielded her considerable influence graciously, and with thoughtful measure.

Satisfying the demands of her commitment, she lived her best life through her tireless efforts to help her nation's people live their best lives.

I believe she would wish us to learn from her example, successes, and failures in equal measure, and with a dignified humility.

For each day of her more than seventy-year reign, her leadership, though as with most anything, imperfect in nature, was unwavering. She was, as it turned out, born to ascend to the role of Queen.

Yet perhaps the greatest tribute I can give her is that her ascension never stopped her, from being Elizabeth. And that humble, imperfect, warm, feisty human being, is who my tears are dedicated to, today.

May Her Majesty the Queen forever rest in peace.

And may the bonds of our friendship with Elizabeth, never fray.
