The Official Obama Portraits Were Unveiled Today at The White House and it was glorious [1]

It was thrilling to see the Obamas at the White House again, and see so many familiar faces, and hear President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden and the Obamas speak.
The portraits themselves are wonderful. But that isn’t even, finally, the point — the point is how uplifting the whole ceremony was, how joyful and healing and uplifting it was to see smart, kind, good people in The White House after years of being dragged through the mud by the absolute worst of us.
Michelle Obama, as she so often is, was the most inspiring voice of all. It’s true that as her husband said, which earned him a side-eye, “she’s fine!” Yes she is! But her external beauty is lit from within by a great and noble spirit. I loved how she recognized “the second gentleman!” and recounted the importance of these ceremonies in reinforcing these traditions of the peaceful transfer of power.
Ultimately, hers was the political speech and the affirmation we needed. I was happy again to be an American.
We must acknowledge our historic shortcomings. But let’s not lose sight of our accomplishments. Our Founding Fathers had deep flaws — this is true! They also gave us a radical vision, a step hundreds of years into the future, a future in which a beautiful Black woman from the South Side of Chicago became the First Lady of the United States of America, and raised her lovely daughters in the White House, and singlehandedly just dragged America the Beautiful back to life.
