The Conspiracy to Overthrow Georgia’s Electoral Results [1]

New video evidence obtained by the Washington Post shows that the Trump campaign’s consultants, Doug Logan and Jeffrey Lenberg, made several visits to the Coffee County elections office in rural Georgia, as they attempted to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election. The team were nominally investigating the results of the election, but, the Coffee County region suffered a post-election breajc of their voting equipment. The consultants are currently under a criminal probe for a voting equipment breach in Michigan. The footage also shows that Cathy Lathan , then the chairwomen of the county’s Republican Party, lied about being absent on the day of the Georgia breach, and, instead, greeted a team of data forensics experts. Lathan was one of 16 Republicans who declared Trump the winner of the 2020 election.

As the midterms come into view, it’s become increasingly clear that Trump will run again, and that the Republican party not only worked to subvert the last elections, but that, since then, they have worked to ensure that they are in a better place to win in 2024, through hijacking the country’s electoral process. Today, half the country, the Republican half, has been convinced by years of lies, that the 2020 election was corrupted and that Trump was the rightful winner. From the Carolinas to California, from Montana to Florida, the lie of the stolen election has spread like a virus. Not only has this lie spread, but Republican candidates have taken up the banner, with half the country facing an election denier on the ballot, according to FiveThirtyEight .

The Big Lie and the cult of Trump is the glue that holds the Republican party together. Today’s Republican party is the enemy of democracy. What the Washington Post’s revelations show is that, not only were Republicans denying the results of the last election, they were actively working to change the results of those elections. Denialism is one thing, trying to rig an election is another. It speaks to the character of the party that they have not shunned the members who have worked to pervert the election. Instead, election denialism has joined gun rights, climate denialism, and anti-abortion beliefs, as the defining traits of the modern Republican party.
