Welcome to my second-ever Labor Day diary, after well over a decade of manning the Top Comments helm on Tuesdays (ahh, how I miss being diarist for every election night and SOTU!). I wrote last year about our first gathering of people in The Times After Covid. alas, this year is both (1) very rainy; and (2) much different… Casa Brillig is preparing for a school year full of change, with K1 employed at two local K-8 private schools, and K1 beginning his junior year at a new high school.

Tomorrow is Primary Day here in Massachusetts, and I’ll be working at the polls again — this year will be my first as Warden and not Clerk so I’m nervously excited about the experience. As I’ll be waking at 4:30 to get ready and be at my location by 5:45 so I can get the tabulator set up (whoa! I’m the person all the voter fraud conspiracy theories are about!!), I will likely not be around much tonight but promise to check in tomorrow when I have a moment.

I told K1 I was planning on a music diary tonight and the response was “What kind of music is that?” So I thought about it for a while, and decided that my offerings will be a mix of definite political music as well as interesting (to me) songs whose title/lyrics embody the theme of Working People. I hope you’ll share your choices in the comments:
