As new chief CNN executive Chris Licht makes his mark at CNN, calls to boycott CNN grow louder. John Harwood was just let go after his honest assessment of President Joe Biden’s recent speech where he detailed the existential threat that the brainwashed MAGA zombies pose to our nation and our way of life. He called Trump a “dishonest demagogue”. Naturally, the snowflakes and reactionaries of MAGA world are up in arms that that a president would call them unpatriotic traitors for wanting to destroy our democracy and our country. People who love America do not plot to destroy it. That is the job of people who hate America.
Licht also recently fired Brian Stelter who still had a few years left on his contract because Licht and MAGA world feel that he is mean to Fox and Donald Trump. Many of us loved that these two would be willing to call a spade a spade. Those in the market for dishonesty watch FOX almost exclusively and will not be tempted to drift to CNN even if they move in a pro FOX direction. Alienating those of us who watched CNN for honest reporting of news will not benefit the network in any way. We do, after all have MSNBC, which continues to value honesty in its reporting.
This April, following the Discovery-Warner Bros merger, the new CNN leadership says it wants the network to adopt a more neutral voice for its news coverage. Neutral coverage? How do you cover an attempted coup without an opinion that such a thing is a negative event? The answer is found at FOX. CNN’s plan to show future indifference to this makes the job of the insurrectionist that much easier. The effect could be to drive down Democratic turnout at the next election. This could prove to be disastrous. CNN chief executive David Zaslav has said that he wants a network for both Republicans and Democrats. Until the Republican base wakes up and values objective rather than subjective reality, this cannot happen.
