The Road Ahead?

Despite the US recording more new deaths in the past week than any point in the last 5 months, the overall signs continue to point in a fairly favorable direction. The weekly caseload of new infections is now at its lowest point in 4 months after a steady 6-week decline, and even the apparent new peak in deaths is more a function of North Carolina’s decision to revise its total death toll upward this week by 400+ previously misreported deaths — so hopefully we’re seeing at least a plateau in the weekly death toll that should start trending lower in line with declining caseloads. The one major discordant note remains Florida, where its weekly death toll remains far in excess of what we might expect after a 50% decline in new cases over the past 7 weeks.
