It kinda seems that for the last couple of years, the pentagon has been slowly creeping towards admitting that what are commonly called UFOs are in fact a real thing, and they are not man made.
Michio Kaku, who has a PhD in physics and built a cyclotron in his garage in high school that was powerful enough to create antimatter particles, has said that UFOs exist and defy our known laws of physics.
There's been a lot of denial from some sides, but in general it seems like there's a slow movement to admitting that so called UFOs are real and tney aren't being made on earth.
Ok, ok, now this raises a question I'd like to see people here answer.
If it was ever admitted and proven that there are extraterrestrial intelligences that have been vising earth for however long, and maybe even the government admits is and that they have had no contact or any form of communication with them, what would happen?
I'm wondering how various groups and societies would react to absolute proof that alien intelligences existed, they don't come from here and are just incredibly ahead of us technologically. Just their existence was proven, no information on their nature, intent, physical appearance, etc was available.
Sadly I know how some people would react, as televangelist and aspiring christianofascist Pat Robertson has said that since the buybull doesn't say aliens exist they don't so they must be 'demons” and the buybull says anyone consorting with demons is to be taken out and stoned to death.

Ken Ham would be delighted to know aliens existed so he could imagine them burning forever in his precious hell along with anyone else not just like him.

At the other end of the spectrum there would be missionaries willing to preach to the aliens to save them.
The conspiracy theorists would likely orgasm to death at the prospect of all the new conspiracy theories they could create, or die from dehydration as they could not tear themselves away from their keyboards posting them.
There would be anti alien militias forming to protect their wives and daughters from 'them aliens”.
A lot of people would like to just see one, physically.
I'm wondering how other people would react. So, how would YOU, dear reader and DK subscriber, react if you were presented with proof that we were not the only intelligent species in this galaxy, others were here and had been coming here for a while. Nothing beyond that.
Personally I'd think that it proves a lot of things people said were impossible, like interstellar and therefore possibly FTL travel, are possible. Energy sources that don't pollute the atmosphere are possible, despite the shrills of petrocorp shills, so I would hope that it would spur a massive global investment in scientific research.
Mostly I'd like to think it would create a new sense of advancement in humanity, the idea that “they” got their act together, developed technology we still believe can't be done, and traveled the stars, so humans would know it's possible to get it together, not kill yourselves off on the planet you were born on with wars, pollution, hate, etc and go to the stars.
As to the aliens themselves, I would just have to hope they had evolved a far more advanced set of ethics and morality than most of humanity practices. I'd hope they had achieved the level of morality and ethics that some humans have developed and try to adhere to.
Mostly I'd just have to hope they had more understanding and empathy than most of humanity does. A “best case” scenario would be intelligences that had developed beyond any material need, a 100% post scarcity society, had developed beyond need to fear hostility as they could easily defend themselves and were much like the aliens Arthur C. Clarke envisioned in the 2001 setting, beings that had no material need and valued intelligent life above all else, as none of their technology or science could produce a genuinely different, alien, perspective, thought or idea.
