If we do much better in the midterms than what was expected just a few months ago, I think that a fair argument could be made that the SC decisions over the summer on abortion, gun control, and the environment really helped incentivize Democrat turnout. Especially given that Congress spent time picking up the pieces, along with the White House taking action.

If so, I think that the willingness of Trump's judges on the SC to hand conservatives cultural wins in an election year (where historical trends indicate that Republicans should have an easy time), thus inviting strong Democratic blowback, could make those judges more of a liability than an asset to those Republicans in Congress who are more interested in "just" retaining power and doing minor shows of competency, than doing anything of substance.

Provided that we win, of course.
