Oh to have the wisdom and insight of an experienced and savvy political reporter at the New York Times. You can see his brilliance at right.
What’s so perfect and beautiful is that the author is able to produce a piece of writing about tonight’s Biden speech that is so versatile in banality that it could apply to anyone’s speeches given decades ago or decades hence, any speech, ever.
He certainly could have written this shiny gem while sitting on the toilet last night, before he’d heard a word of Biden’s speech.
I can only imagine the shear power of his mind, biding his time to find just the perfect moment to paste this mental effluence into his real New York Times live blog text box. And click “Post” at the perfect second!
And how many great writers could create a style that can be reproduced and emulated by a child with a Speak and Spell? Where you can’t discern the banal paraphrase from the real original text. Try:
“As the President spoke, some listened, some didn’t. Many listeners liked what he said, while those who didn't listen didn’t like it. Who can know if it will make a difference? It’s hard to say.”
And finally, I beg us all to genuflect in our own way to his 61-word contribution to humanity’s great and endless conversation, that in the end says, fully and completely and unequivocally, absolutely nothing.
