Selection process for the state's next member of Congress
The 2022 United States Senate election in Wisconsin is scheduled for November 8, 2022, to elect a member of the United States Senate from Wisconsin. The party primaries were held on August 9, 2022.
Incumbent Republican Senator Ron Johnson was first elected in 2010. In 2016, he was reelected with 50.17% of the vote against Democrat Russ Feingold, Johnson's predecessor. In 2016, Johnson pledged to serve only two terms; however he ultimately decided to run for re-election to a third term.[1]
This race is expected to be one of the most competitive and could decide control of the U.S. Senate. The Democratic Party has seen considerable success in recent statewide elections, including in 2018, when Democrats won every statewide contest on the ballot, including the state's other Senate seat, and the 2020 presidential election, in which Democrat Joe Biden narrowly carried the state.[2]
