trump, the unstable genius, thinks that he caught the FBI red-handed doing something nefarious at Mar-A-Lago — faking the picture of documents scattered on his office floor. He is proclaiming that the folders were nicely organized in cartons and the FBI made it look like they were scattered on the carpet. Since the documents fit in cartons, they must acquit!

Let’s go through this slowly, Mr. TFG —

You are not being accused of scattering documents on the floor of you private office, you are being accused of illegal possession and misuse of these top-secret documents. It is standard procedure to organize evidence in a clear manner to take a picture of a crime scene; that’s exactly what they did. They made it clear that the documents came from cartons but they were arranged, with markers, to take the picture. You just admitted to illegal possession of these documents, keeping them in your insecure office and being aware of their security posture and importance. Stating that you organized them neatly in boxes will not work as a defense in a court. There are 36 pages of implicating info in the DOJ filing and Lord knows what else was discovered by the FBI. The jury will get to hear your rantings. Good luck. Not really.

The folders were arrayed by agents at Mar-a-Lago after being removed from what the filing indicated was Mr. Trump’s office — they were not discovered scattered on the floor, according to two federal law enforcement officials. The Justice Department would not comment on the specifics of the photograph. But it is standard practice for the F.B.I. to take evidentiary pictures of materials recovered in a search to ensure that items are properly cataloged and accounted for. The marking “2A” on a folded piece of paper in the picture corresponds to a listing in the inventory of items seized in the search that was made public along with the search warrant. In that inventory, the item marked as “2A” is described as “various classified TS/SCI documents.” Files or documents are not tossed around randomly, even though they might appear that way; they are usually splayed out so they can be separately identified by their markings. The ruler seen in the image is to give a sense of their size in relation to other objects.

Another simple way to explain the imbecile defense by trump -

Many folks have also pointed out the obvious that none of the files they discovered had the classification markings changed/stamped differently to suggest they'd been declassified. Nor did the lawyers ever indicate in their back-and-forth with the DOJ over 18 months that trump had declassified the documents. The declassification excuse is just something trump and Kash Patel made up out of desperation.

Also, let’s be careful not to state that documents were found scattered on the carpet. They were not found in that state and it is not relevant.

trump’s legal team apparently has until 8:00 p.m. EDT to respond to the court. Let’s hope they crash and burn. Many of them may also end up in jail for lying for trump.
