Results are being announced that show former governor Sarah Palin has lost a special election to fill Alaska’s US Seat.
Democrat Mary Peltola 51.5%
Republican Sarah Palin 48.5%
The state of Alaska is holding a special election to fill its single US House seat, vacated when Don Young died.
The voting was held a couple of weeks ago, but because the state uses rank choice voting and allows mail ballots to be counted if they are cast before election day as long as they arrive by today. A second, general election will be held for the seat in November.
Democrat Mary Peltola was leading by 16,479 after the first couple of rounds of tabulating. The results tonight will decide if she or Sarah Palin fills the seat until January as the third place votes are distributed.
