Last week, NY state held its second of two primaries this year. We had to go through this whole thing again thanks to right-wing upstate judge and a conservadem majority on the Court of Appeals (NY’s highest court) throwing out Congressional and State Senate maps drawn by the legislature. While it was nice to be paid for another day of working the polls, it should have never come to this. But it did and thus I had to wake my ass up at 4:30 to travel the half mile to my work polling location.

When I got my letter to work, I noticed my table was not it’s usual district which seemed strange. Thankfully, the county BOE had the foresight to combine the two districts into one considering only the Dems were having a primary and my area is heavily Republican so it was unlikely many people would be turning out to vote. Before I knew there would only one district, I guessed I would have 15 people vote. I would have been close guess 30 because we had about 38 people vote.

Knowing there was not going to be a Republican primary, I could hopefully avoid the poll watchers from the local Rep Club and not have to deal with those jerks. My only real worry was people coming into vote who were not registered Democrats (closed primaries here) and making a fuss about voter fraud or other nonsense. Luckily, every non-registered Dem understood why they were not allowed to vote. I counted about 10 of these people. The only person that disappointed me was the lady in a wheelchair who came in hoping to vote for Lee Zeldin, the odious GOP governor candidate. As a disabled person myself, I cannot understand why someone with a disability would support someone whose votes are clearly bad for disabled people.

The only primary for my area was a Dem primary for NY-4. Four people were competing for the chance to taken on my ultra corrupt Town Councilman, hand-picked by the Republican Party. Because she was previously the Town of Hempstead Supervisor (only Dem ever elected to that position) and had been endorsed by pretty much every important politician and organization that made an endorsed, Laura Gillen won the primary by 40 points.

Now onto November.
