Nothing is more irritating than people who supposedly had it rough complaining that younger generations are getting a free pass. Maybe we’ve always done that. When penicillin was discovered, did all the people who lost limbs to infection bitterly complain that young people would never experience gangrene, and thus never fully understand what life is all about?
Of course, the current whinging about President Biden’s plan to forgive some student loan debt is hardly analogous to the penicillin kids getting a leg up while their parents’ generation got a leg off. Because in this case, anyway, previous generations had it way easier.
Based on data collected from the nonprofit College Board, My eLearning World estimates that the cost of attending college has risen by nearly five times the rate of inflation over the past 50 years. So boomers’ financial burden was far less than that of their college-educated kids and grandkids.
