Question ----> Should we broaden our scope here at Daily Kos? [1]

There is an old line here at DailyKos, along the lines of “Came for the politics, stayed for the community” … but is this still true if it ever was? Do our overlords here, Kos et a;., really care about fostering a community here?

There are sub groups here at Dk, shoot I belong to several of them, but are those communities only OK’d for by admin OK for the site? I am not saying this in and of itself is wrong. Kos owns the site and ihe site and if suddenly he wanted to place pink lizard icons on the site that tweet Kazooo: for every third picture on the site he has that very right.

But….

This has 1 purpose to elect more and better Democrats.

I for one argue that there is no such thing as having too many communities, we lost an active gay group (WGLB) a long time and for sure we would be lost here without our pooties.

But some groups are not welcome here right out (responsible gun owners), a pro Islamic or Christian group not often taken over in the comments section, a Jewish group that is not about policy on Israel or towards Israel rather on 99 percent of Jewish groups that exist elsewhere on the web talking about targeting us for volunteer opportunities, or Jewish subdivisions, such as pro choice topics.

The obvious answer to this is: If you do not find topics that you want to see on the site, write them yourself.

Well that is fine and good if I had 24 hours added to each day. I already try to write a diary a day when I can, plus I am also am referencing topics that, although I have no personal tie in to (Progressive gun owners...I am not a progressive per se nor a gun owner) I just wish those that were felt OK to write such diaries so as to boost the size of the Democrats out there and rid ourselves of the fundamentalist right wing.

Does anyone else feel as I do, or am I alone?
