Hooray for our system of national parks! This year is the 150th birthday of the first park in the US, Yellowstone. Ulysses S. Grant signed the law creating it. Theodore Roosevelt was a big promoter of the idea.

The agency to oversee all the parks wasn’t established until 40 years later. Woodrow Wilson signed the law creating the National Park Service in 1916. Today we have 63 national parks, totalling over 2% of our land area.

Just a sample:

Sequoia

Yosemite

Acadia

American Samoa is home to flying foxes, brown boobies, sea turtles, coral reef and hundreds of species of fish

Biscayne Bay, in Florida, is home to manatees, crocodiles, sea turtles, and peregrine falcons.

Carlsbad Caverns has 117 caves, and is home to 400,000 Mexican free-tailed bats.

PWBPeeps is a group that posts a daily diary and nightly open thread for animal lovers. We share photos, seek & give advice about pet health and behavior issues, support each other in times of sadness and stress, celebrate together when times are good, and on most days have an inordinate amount of fun.

You are welcome to join us!

Here are few not-too-onerous PWB rules
