If you have been around a VERRRRY long time, you know that I handicapped all 438 House seats in 2006, found districts to flip, and raised over 17k for Democrats nation-wide. One of the candidates I advocated for was Dave Loesback, a high school history teacher, running against Jim Leech, a 30-year Republican incumbent.
Dave won. This got the attention of the head of the DNC at the time, Howard Dean, who said that NOBODY was betting on Loesback to win except ol Ultrageek, and, would introduce me as the only person in the country who knew congressional districts better than he did.
A lot of “my” candidates won. Nancy Boyda, KS-2, Harry Mitchell, AZ-5, Tim Walz, MN-1. The head of the DCCC at the time, told me that I was an idiot, that, maybe 6 seats in the country were competitive. I told him it was closer to 30. I was right. He was wrong. And, that was the last time that he spoke to me.
Anyway, once again, I am in a blue district in a blue city in a blue county in a blue state, and, once again, the question is: how do I help?
I am not going state-by-state this time. I am going seat by seat. And, my first stop is IA-02.
The incumbent is Ashley Hinson. She is a freshman R-Congresscritter in a Biden world, so, she has little to run on except how Trump is good and Biden is bad.
If this were a redder district, maybe that would fly. But I just don’t think that’s good enough. Yes, it went Trump. But, before Trump, it went for Gore, Kerry, and Obama, and I don’t see how voting against Women’s Health (i.e., “abortion”) is good politics right now. Mathis agrees (check out www.telegraphherald.com/...)
We have a good candidate with good name recognition in Mathis. She was born into a farming family, went into journalism — radio first, then tv — then on to the State House and the State Senate. People are used to voting for Mathis. She just needs some help from us to flip this seat from red to blue.
