Crist Comes Out Swinging [1]

Charlie Crist was the overwhelming choice in the Democratic primary to take on Florida governor Ron DeSantis (aka DeathSatan). Even as the polls were closing yesterday, I was hearing pundits moaning that the Dems had made a bad choice, that Crist didn’t have what it takes to beat DeSantis and his $110+ million war chest. They shouldn’t write Crist off so fast, says Jennifer Rubin:
Don’t underestimate Charlie Crist. He’s going for DeSantis’s jugular.
Crist, a mild-mannered moderate on the trail, came out swinging at DeSantis in his victory remarks: “Our fundamental freedoms are literally on the ballot. … A woman’s right to choose, on the ballot. Democracy, on the ballot. Your rights as minorities are on this ballot.” . . . Crist’s attacks on DeSantis were unsparing: “He’s abusive. He is a bully. … He’s dangerous.” Crist accused the governor of imitating the worst political authoritarians around the globe, and bashed him for refusing to call out his flag-waving neo-Nazi supporters.
Crist promised his first action would be to sign an executive order on abortion rights. Next, he would reinstall the Hillborough county DA whom DeSantis (probably illegally) removed for executing prosecutorial discretion and refusing to prosecute women for having an abortion. In other words, Crist is taking the Democratic pro-choice (really, pro-womens’-rights) rallying cry and running ahead with full speed.
Oh, about the money chest DeSantis is sitting on:
Florida remains a red-trending state. DeSantis has a boatload of money. But this does not mean DeSantis will waltz to victory. In making DeSantis’s bullying and violations of freedom the central issue, Crist is trying out a playbook that may be useful against any MAGA Republican nominee in 2024. If Crist pulls an upset, or even comes close, Republicans might decide DeSantis is not a good bet for 2024.
And that is what really has the pundit class in a tizzy. Not so much that Crist might win, but that he might knock DeSantis out of the running for 2024, meaning there would be no Trump-DeSantis battle, meaning that the punditry wouldn’t be able to punditize™ about it.
The Media Want The DeSantis Story They've Already Written
We all know it: The media wants a showdown between Trump and Ron DeSantis so bad they can taste it. And if Charlie Crist becomes the next Florida governor, that throws a big monkey wrench into that "Ron DeSantis is inevitable" narrative. So they will continue to push that story line, no matter the facts.
It seems even Alex Wagner went along with that line:

(Suggest some other links and I’ll add them.) As Crooks and Liars pointed out, Americans all around the country should (and are) send donations to Crist to help him beat DeSatan.
We get a two-for-one here. We get to rescue Florida from an authoritarian maniac who has destroyed the state’s health care, education, reproductive freedom, and environment all in the name of White Christian Nationalism, and stop him before he can do the same to the whole country.
