Could be mistaken for the mountains of Upstate NY.

My sister and I just spent the weekend in Rochester, NY, the brightest blue spot in northern NY outside of Buffalo. It was our first time up there. The city had numerous and various Pride flags all over and even the streets and sidewalks had been painted in rainbow colors. What I noticed most of all were the lawn signs for Congressman Morelle (D) who represents Rochester and the greater Monroe which will now be NY-25.

We made our way back to Long Island on Sunday. There directions had us detour off I-90 onto the back roads of Seneca and Cayuga Counties instead. Probably because of traffic due to road construction we saw as we drove up on Weds. Driving through such pretty farmland on these two lane roads, I noticed numerous sign for Rep. Claudia Tenney (R) who is running in the newly redrawn NY-24 which hugs NY-25 like a neck collar. I did not see any signs for any of the for either her Democratic opponent nor her primary opponents.

As drove further south, we crossed into the new NY-22 which contains Syracuse and Utica. Some more picturesque farmland and lots of dairy farms. We saw some signs for Republican primary candidate Steve Wells but no signs for anyone else. This is where we came across a business named for Robert E. Lee just cementing how crazy most of Upstate NY is.

As we drove into Monticello to visit some family, we did not see any signs for the race in the newly redrawn 19th nor for the race to replace LG Delgado. Very strange as Monticello is one of the bigger areas of Sullivan County.

After visiting family, we crossed into Northern NJ and district 5. Lots of signs for Congressman Josh Gottheimer in Paramus along Route 4. None for his opponent. Word of warning, never drive from Upstate NY to Long Island on a Sunday evening. The traffic is awful with everyone coming back home to the city.

Arriving back on Long Island, I noticed a bunch of signs for different Democratic candidates for NY-3 which is mostly northern Nassau County. County Legislator Josh Lafazan, Robert Zimmerman, Melanie D'Arrigo and Jon Kaiman were the ones I saw. Down in my home district, I saw one sign for former Hempstead Town Supervisor, Laura Gillen and a few in Malverne for Malverne Mayor Keith Corbett. Around my actual hometown, there are numerous signs for the ultra-corrupt Anthony D’Esposito, my Republican Town Councilman. Because the Republican Club holds enormous power here, I cannot remember ever having a Republican primary for any office they can control.

By the time you read this, I will have finished working the polls for tomorrow’s Democratic primary for NY-4. I doubt there will be more than 15 voters in the 15 hours people have to vote on election day.
