If you recall, last year I stumbled across a lovely place that had more mushrooms than I’ve ever seen in one place. This year is just as good for the summer monsoon season so we headed back up to the Mogollon Rim to see if the same place was as exciting. It was different, yet held it’s own surprises. I’m not sure if the mushroom season changes all that much. But even though it was later in the year as opposed to last year, it seemed that the mushroom crop looked younger. I didn’t see the huge diner plate sized examples like I found last time. Evidence of old, worn out mushrooms were nowhere to be found.

This time around I made up my mind to see if my Seek app would be helpful in I.D.ing what was out there. It was not. Out of everything I shot, it only nailed two species, neither looked like they would be close to fun to eat for dinner.

Right next to the Dung Roundhead, but that picture was kinda yucky.

Also, this time I concentrated on taking series of photos to stack. What I didn’t realize was how hard it was going to be kneeling down with my macro lens, getting low angle shots and being able to see the view finder. I fell into a rhythm with making minute adjustments to the manual focus that started to get decent results.

This looks like a puffball relative but I’ve never seen one that split open like this.

The moss was going nuts with all the rain we’ve had!

My favorite shot. I just love the light and color.
