Whatever her motive was for taking this stand, it was not in order to try to become president because this left her with no support and meant losing a high ranking position and without an elected office after the midterms and she had to know that at the time. She could not win a presidential primary of either political party after taking this stand and she had to know that.
I keep reading here that Representative Liz Cheney's only or main reason for doing this is to become president. She was the third ranking Republican in the House. Then she went after Trump and his supporters for the insurrection. She intentionally threw away a seat as representative she had set for life, knowing that she would lose her primary and be out of office after her 2022 midterm. Who could successfully run for president out of office and whose highest office ever was in the US House of Representatives and only served it in a short time and whose only base of support is a group whom she voted against 95% of the time?
She can't win a Democratic Party primary, especially not for president. She can't win a Republican Party primary, especially for president. Nobody including her can win a presidential election as an independent. She has only served in Congress since 2017. The statements in this post are obvious and should not be controversial among anybody even reasonably informed and educated. This shows the anger of political activists in my Democratic Party. It is impossible to create a reasonable response to this post. It is clearly the truth. The people who have written the opposite include people better educated and smarter than me and who love this country and our shared political party. They are better than their posts give them credit They are so opposed to giving a republican credit, any Republican, that they are adopting an absurd position. I am NOT arguing that she is a good person or that she is not capable of treachery. I am simply saying that she did not do this to try to become president. She is not a stupid person. She knows that nobody in the modern era is going to go from three terms in the House of Representatives to president with no base of support. She knows and knew that Democrats won't support her in a Democratic Party primary for president against actual Democrats and she knows and knew that she could not win a Republican Party primary for president and could not win a presidential election as an independent. This may be the only virtue that she has or the only good thing that she has done that is good in her entire life, but she did not do this because of her political ambition. She was angry at the election deniers DURING the insurrection and told them it was their fault.
This took her out of office. Are you so angry that she holds different political beliefs than you do that you would once affirm that a person could in the modern era go from being out office and have as your highest office a seat as a US Representative and have only held that three terms and be unable to win a primary for president in either major political party and immediately go to the White House by winning a presidential election? The longer she is out of office, the worse her prospects. She clearly can't win a Republican Party primary for anything as her last primary demonstrated. She can't win a Democratic Party primary for president because she voted against us 95% of the time. An independent cannot now win a presidential election. She would have had to be an idiot to believe that she could immediately win a presidential election with that background by taking this stand. She was in a better position before. She simply needed to submit her integrity for the temporary political support of Donald Trump like almost every other elected Republican who is not retiring did. She could not do it . Almost all elected Republicans, Republicans in Congress, know that the claims of Trump are false and that it is wrong to do what they are doing. They know it is wrong to support Donald Trump. They know that all the things he did are evil. But they knew that without him they would lose the support of all their friends and even family and have zero future in the Republican Party and have no other viable base of support. They knew that their political career would be over. They knew that they would not get a cushy job afterwards. They cared more about these things than their integrity or the country. She and Adam Kinzinger are the extremely rare exceptions along with a few others.
This was a path to political suicide only taken because she and Adam cared more about their integrity and the country than the things they would forfeit by taking this stand. It seems like an easy choice, but think about the shunning. The people at this level of elected office are extremely ambitious. Think about losing all of your friends and throwing away your career. It should be normal to make this choice, but it's not as easy as we think. She deserves credit for this one good choice. . it doesn't make her a good person. It doesn't remove the terrible votes and values she has in her history.
What I am saying is simple: she took this stand because it was the right thing to do, not in order to win a presidential election or to satisfy her political ambition.
