I thought up this title a couple weeks ago, then wasn't sure what to do with it. Direct commentary on the mid-terms, on Dobbs, on the crazy Republinazis (or are they really crazy if they've come up with the perfect plan to achieve their nefarious ends?), some combination of all of those, or who knows what else?. I thought maybe some words of wisdom on the separation of church and state (i. e. , Dobbs) which could morph into the story of my evolution, at 15, into an atheist.
But for several months, I've also been alarmed at the reports from the pundit class, and my own recognition, that the Democrats are seemingly oblivious to the gold mine of ads/commentary that the horrific (too many people use the word "unacceptable" -- what a pathetically weak word that is in these contexts) Dobbs decision provided.
So in the end, I decided that the ad that has been forming in my mind over the last few weeks should be my first diary to Kos. I hereby donate this free of all remuneration of any kind, to any and all Democratic politicians, campaigns, PACs, headquarters. On the condition that no entity, or entities can have exclusive rights to it.
So here we go:
The setting is a wedding. We'll need 3 actors (yes, I know this makes it expensive, but there just is no other way to convey the expressions that are vital to the ad.
The camera/narrator (C/N) is facing a minister, in front of whom is the happy couple as they both say simultaneously (yes, not this way in real life -- artistic license!) "I do".
As they both turn to the (imagined) congregation, and appear slightly startled to find someone in their path, C/N says "Congratulations on your happy day! So how many children are you planning on having? Of course, the couple is slightly taken aback by this impertinence, yet, again simultaneously, they say "Two".
C/N says "Awww, that's too bad. You know that in (X#) states, including this one, Republicans have already, for all intents and purposes, completely banned abortion. They already have plans, if they can cheat enough to win the House, Senate, and Presidency, to ram through a nationwide total ban on abortion (cut to video clip of Moscow Mitch confirming this) and the Republican Supreme Court is already making plans to ban contraception (cut to photo of Clarence Thomas' written statement saying this, with additional video clips of various Rethugs saying this).
So you may have been planning on two, but you probably should be thinking more in terms of five, or eight, or ten or maybe more."
(Close-up of both faces -- eyes bugging out, jaws dropping, starting to mutter incoherently. In background, the minister is smirking [OK, this might be too much, but ...}.).
OK, that's pretty much all I got. One could go into a mini history lesson on separation of church and state, calling out the liars who deny the concept, or, well, who knows what else. So anyone out there who has suggestions for an ending, or, especially, a connection to someone who could put this into play, go to it. I've been playing the lottery so that I could self-fund this (and a lot more) but so far, no luck
