Rožnov pod Radhoštěm
is a beautiful town in the heart of Moravia, with perhaps more art galleries than a town its size could reasonably keep viable.
After our morning of running around the gentle green mountains, we went downtown and took in some more art.
This neat little gallery had an exhibition of the wonderful and whimsical sculptures of Stefan Milkov
Then we went for a walk in a huge park along the river.
There were sculptures everywhere.
A piece by Kateřina Komm — curious coincidence, her mom works with Mrs the Werelynx.
Werewolf, the work of Nikola Emma Ryšavá another young talent who finds inspiration in horror
Detail
A decidedly disturbing piece by Ryšavá.
Exiting the park we decided to stop by the city museum. Hey, when you’re traveling with Pavel you get into these places for free.
Rožnov pod Radhoštěm’s city museum— flying the Czech and Ukrainian flags (of course)
Packed with displays covering the whole history of the area
Pavel wanted to visit the museum just to see this wall of portraits by Josef Prokop. Bohumír Jaroněk, his sister Julia and brother Alois— a family of remarkable artists.
There was a lot of art to see in the museum.
Ah, a professional painter of porcelain. Set prices,
Upstairs, an exhibit of lace.
Quite an amazing art form if you ask me.
Lace played an important part in local fashions, which were covered in another section of the museum.
After the museum, the others stopped at a café on the square.
While they enjoyed a treat, I treated myself to a sketch.
Thanks for stopping by.
Oh, and Michelewln’s computer guy was expensive and incompetent. Hopefully she’ll figure out transferring her files and profile info with her brother’s help and be back with us. I haven’t heard anything since Wednesday though, so here’s hoping.
This is an open thread.
