Welcome to Street Prophets Thursday Coffee Hour cleverly located at the intersection of religion and politics. I haven’t been around lately because my computer rolled over and died. Fortunately I happen to have a super brother down in Texas and Eric made me a new computer. We just need to be able to hook up the old drive and get my data and I’ll be all set.

I have frequently spoken about my cat Pixie. Pixie is my emotional support animal and I am hers. Pixie was born in a storage shed at my Mom and Dad’s house in Indiana. Being highly intelligent she sussed out very quickly that Mom was a sucker and waltzed on into the house and refused to go back out.

Mom was one of the most difficult patients a caregiver could have. Pixie realized that Mom didn’t need to mop the floor again or other things that were a strain on her heart. So when Mom sat down in the recliner Pixie jumped on her lap and wouldn’t get up again. I came home from work one afternoon and Mom begged to get the cat as she needed to start dinner. Of course I picked Pixie up and whispered “good girl” in her ear. Pixie added six years to my Mom’s life.

Pixie since our move to North Carolina has earned her KN or Kitty Nurse Degree. She will follow me around and yell at me if she senses I am over doing things. She will lay down with me and curl up to anywhere that is hurting and purr. According to Scientific American:

Various investigators have shown that sound frequencies in this range can improve bone density and promote healing. This association between the frequencies of cats' purrs and improved healing of bones and muscles may provide help for some humans.

At the moment my nurse and I are trying to get ready to move at the end of the month from a two bedroom two bath to a studio. It will be easier for me to keep clean while still giving me a decent size kitchen to continue creating recipes and making cookbooks to sell. One of the hardest things about losing Reid is that not only have I lost a baby brother but I lost my taste tester. I’ll dedicate the cookbook to him and our Dad.

Pixie is now 17 years old and with me being 74 years old we are a couple of little old ladies enjoying our silver years together.
