the Japanese macaque is the world's most northerly species of monkey.
Japan has about 130 species of land mammals. There are two types of bears
Asian bear or moon bear
They have red foxes, raccoon dogs (also known as tanuki)
and Japanese martens.
There are two wild native cats, the leopard cat of Asia, and the Iriomote cat, unique to its island.
They have sika deer,
wild boar, and the Japanese serow.
The island chain stretches from subarctic climate in the north to subtropical in the south, so there is plenty of diversity!
PWBPeeps is a group that posts a daily diary and nightly open thread for animal lovers. We share photos, seek & give advice about pet health and behavior issues, support each other in times of sadness and stress, celebrate together when times are good, and on most days have an inordinate amount of fun.
You are welcome to join us!
Here are few not-too-onerous PWB rules
