Make Republicans Choose-Texas or Social Security and Minimum Wage [1]

Besides our obligation to inform the voters of what the Republicans will do to us if they get elected, we also need to ask ourselves what would the Republican Party do if the Democratic Party handed them a tremendous gift in the form of a colossal political blunder? They would certainly not show us any mercy. The Democratic Party must adopt the same attitude.

The person in charge of electing more Republicans to the Senate, Senator Rick Scott of Florida, has issued the Republican Senatorial platform which calls for raising taxes on the middle class and poor. He also proposes to make every governmental program, including Social Security and Medicare be reauthorized every five years or they will die. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin wants to make Social Security and Medicare subject to the whims of Congress every year. Sorry folks, we have a War in Iraq to pay for this year, so we cannot afford too much Social Security and Medicare. Please disregard all previous advice to start planning for your retirement when you are young.

The Democratic Party must make sure that every voter in every state is aware of the plans proposed by Rick Scott and Ron Johnson for Social Security and Medicare. There are other Republican proposals that are being totally ignored. The platform recently adopted at the Texas Republican Party Convention calls for the complete abolition of Social Security and the minimum wage. Now what would the Republican Party do if any Democrat or group of Democrats made such a huge blunder? If the Republican Party loses the ability to win Texas in a presidential race, they cannot win a majority in the Electoral College. So why don’t we force them to choose between repudiating the Texas Republican Party or abolishing Social Security and the minimum wage? Either way they lose.
