Louisiana school librarian fights back in court [1]

Amanda Jones has had enough.

The Louisiana school librarian decided to fight back against the rage, false accusations, and the actual threats of violence, and has filed a defamation lawsuit against two men who accused her, via Facebook, of being a pedophile.

From NBCNews:

Jones, the president of the Louisiana Association of School Librarians, was alarmed and outraged by the verbal attacks, which came after she spoke against censorship at a Livingston Parish Library Board of Control meeting. She said she’s suing the two men because she’s exhausted with the insults hurled at educators and librarians over LGBTQ materials.

I happen to think that the greatest danger facing my country at this time is the outsized level of pure hate that has permeated the “respectable” political process, hate which used to be found only at the fringes. Hillary Clinton may have lamented the “politics of personal destruction” way back in 2003, but it has gotten so much worse in the past few years, especially since 2016. Twenty years ago the ragers at least attempted to use apparently plausible arguments based on information that seemed to be actual facts (i.e., they used exaggeration and distortion in their attacks). But now things have devolved into fabricating accusations out of thin air, with no attempt whatsoever to make the arguments “plausible.” They only need to be “believable” in the minds of people who will believe anything if it is what they want to believe. So I am glad when I hear of people using the legal process to resist the lies, threats, and sometimes violence that has become common today.
