Big news, I know. But the thought of two flying petri dishes on the way east and another two on the way back, ….

I took myself out to breakfast Saturday morning. It was a place I’ve been before, and the food was decent and plentiful; but I probably won’t go there again.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I don’t often put statistical/political things here, but the New Majority Index is fascinating.

The Getty Museum is returning items to Italy that were determined to have been stolen from the country. Not by the Getty, it seems.

What happened to the Japanese workers when a sawmill town in Grant County, Oregon, closed down in 1930?

A couple of contributing factors in the Kentucky flooding.

How black holes nearly ruined time.

Scholars think they’ve deciphered Linear Elamite.

Caffeine’s effect on consumer spending.

Why early Romans used lopsided dice.

A couple of new books, a new place to pick up physical library holds, a new hasp on my storage unit. Big things happening in my personal life.

I’m beginning to walk much straighter, and while my right hip still hurts, it’s a dull ache rather than sharp pains. The hiking poles seem to help a lot.

My youngest nephew is safely married, and his two kids are staying with my brother and sister-in-law to give the couple something of a honeymoon. I think they’re going to take a trip to somewhere in the South Pacific — they were certainly discussing that when I met her — but not terribly soon.

My chiropractor had a few more suggestions - including one I'm probably not going to take anytime soon.

Love you guys!
