Myths. What others try to get you to believe, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
One of the definitions of the word myth is;
a widely held, but false belief or idea: like trickle down economics
And that’s what we’re dealing with whenever we here the phrase/descriptor; Moderate Republican. There is no such creature. It doesn’t exist. Some have suggested a Myth Romney, but it’s right there in the name, it’s a Myth.
Republicans by nature and tradition put Party before country. That nature prevents them from ever being anything close to being moderate. A Reactionary more aptly fits Republicans and the dictionary agrees;
re·ac·tion·ar·y ADJECTIVE (of a person or a set of views) opposing political or social liberalization or reform: NOUN a reactionary person:
Another descriptor that describes Republicans is, Authoritarian;
au·thor·i·tar·i·an ADJECTIVE favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom: NOUN an authoritarian person.
One could hardly describe any of the actions of Republicans as moderate;
mod·er·ate NOUN a person who holds moderate views, especially in politics: VERB make or become less extreme, intense, rigorous, or violent:
There is another descriptor that fits Republicans, that at first glance, seems counter-intuitive. That word is libertarian;
lib·er·tar·i·an NOUN an advocate or supporter of a political philosophy that advocates only minimal state intervention in the free market and the private lives of citizens: "no true libertarian would ever support a culture where citizens must show their papers to travel" a person who advocates civil liberty. philosophy a person who believes in the doctrine that human beings possess free will. ADJECTIVE relating to or denoting a political philosophy that advocates only minimal state intervention in the free market and the private lives of citizens:
Do you see the contradiction? But when it comes to their personal behavior and conduct, a Republican, like a libertarian, wants to be above the rules. Rules are for others, not for them personally. The Party of Personal Responsibility never wants or accepts personal responsibility for themselves.
And for those who believe as they do, they also grant them the “right” to be a libertarian in behavior and actions. All others must conform to their idea of what’s right or wrong. Or which religious ideology(and boy is this one full of future fraught) one must follow.
You’ll hear a comment about say… a Myth Romney. And how he’s a moderate… But in the end, this Myth Romney and all these other mythical creatures called a moderate Republican, vote with the rest of the Republicans, who vote for the most extreme, intense, rigorous, or violent enforcement and strict obedience to their authority. That’s not a moderate.
So next time you hear someone say the words Moderate Republican, remember. It’s a myth. They’re lying to you. They don’t exist. If they ever did exist, they went extinct eons ago. Archeologist have yet to find any evidence, that they ever existed.
