He probably would have preferred not to, but they forced his hand...
For the past year and half a segment of the population has been lamenting the Department of Justice’s “no commenting on ongoing investigations” policy while berating Attorney General Merrick Garland to “do his fucking job”.
AG Garland, the DOJ, and the FBI started out this week fully intending to maintain that status quo. Monday morning they tried to keep things on the down low by rolling in wearing civilian attire. They did their very best to avoid media scrutiny and protect the privacy of former President Trump by having the judge seal the warrant.
When Trump himself broke the news that the FBI was searching his Mar-a-Lago residence it was kinda surreal. I said at the time, “The best part of this whole story is Trump whinily trying to get out ahead of it...” I’d say that statement holds true five days later, and it’s in response to Donald Trump’s knee-jerk reaction to the search that we’ve gotten more and more information each day.
Tuesday morning I was worrying the whole thing would turn out a nothingburger, and I was really surprised when Republicans didn’t spin it as such. Instead Republican lawmakers screamed how it was an outrage and set a dangerous precedent… They then began calling for the DOJ to unseal the warrant…

Meanwhile deranged deplorables nationwide repeated their call for another civil war, prompting some moron to attempt a breach of the FBI’s field office in Cincinnati yesterday morning. Spoiler! They had to pry the gun from his cold dead hands… Which is how the rest of these dipshits are going to end up if they too act out their fantasies.
Speculation from all corners ran rampant this week, but none spread faster than the right wing talking point suggesting the FBI planted evidence… This appears to have been the final straw for our Attorney General.
All this combined forced mild mannered Attorney General Merrick Garland to deviate from the Department of Justice’s rule against commenting on ongoing investigations. He did so the same way he does all things: calmly, sedately, deliberately, and authoritatively…
