BREAKING: Trump-endorsed extremist and twice-failed candidate Tim Michels is the GOP gubernatorial nominee and will now face our great Democratic Governor, Tony Evers, in the general election.
Tim Michels is a radical, dangerously out of touch with Wisconsinites. Read on and join us to defeat him: wisdems.org/timmichels
Tim Michels has run his campaign claiming that he’s a political “outsider.” Wrong. He is, in fact, an insider—a lifelong would-be politician, embracing the most divisive positions possible to appeal to Donald Trump and his base. No wonder Trump endorsed him.

Michels wants to ban abortion with no exceptions for rape and incest, and said Wisconsin’s 1849 ban on abortion is “an exact mirror” of his position. With the GOP-run state legislature pushing yet more anti-abortion bills, Michels would be horrifying for reproductive rights.
Tim Michels doesn’t think members of the LGBTQ+ community should be out in public.
In a debate during his failed 2004 Senate campaign: “But I think when you bring it [same-sex marriage] out of your house and onto the public street, that’s where I differ.”

He’s opposed marriage equality and supported a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
I’m not just talking about Tim Michels’s massively failed 2004 Senate race or his even more disastrous 1998 State Senate race—Tim Michels opposes marriage equality now, in 2022.
x In response to whether he supports same-sex marriage or believes it should be banned, Republican candidate for governor Tim Michels said today in an interview he believes "marriage should be between a man and a woman." — Molly Beck (@MollyBeck) June 14, 2022
Up against our Education Governor, Tony Evers, the comparison against Tim Michels is stark. Michels has called increasing investment in our kid’s public education the “definition of insanity.”
x On Sunday, @michelsforgov called continued investments in public education “the definition of insanity.”
Thanks to *the* Education Gov @Tony4WI, our public schools rank top ten in the nation and got the largest increase in general aid & special ed funding in over a decade. pic.twitter.com/Q2HtMTChmS — Wisconsin Democrats (@WisDems) July 28, 2022
And rather than proposing anything to improve the quality of public education, Tim Michels has centered his plan for Wisconsin schools around a bill to drown schools in lawsuits by making it easier for people to sue schools over the books they’re teaching.
Gov. Evers, a former educator, has lifted Wisconsin schools back into the top 10 in the country. Michels would send them into a nose-dive, draining money from public schools to fund private ones and increasing property taxes by $577 million.
Michels doesn’t want to fund public schools, but he supports Wisconsin's 18-year-olds being able to buy AR-15s with no waiting period. He opposed a bipartisan package of reforms that included background checks for 18-year-olds purchasing guns.
In fact, Tim Michels has pledged to lift restrictions on firearms, opposes an assault weapons ban, and said he will not support “red flag” laws backed by 81% of Wisconsin voters. Michels as governor would make our great state of Wisconsin less safe.

Let’s talk Trump. Michels is a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate. Here they are at a rally in Waukesha last week. Trump stumped for Michels. Why does Trump want Michels?
x Donald Trump and Tim Michels are just two peas in a pod of ultra-MAGA, radicalness. @michelsforgov would move Wisconsin backwards, and we can't allow that. pic.twitter.com/LuIsDQZad3 — Wisconsin Democrats (@WisDems) August 8, 2022
Tim Michels has said that “maybe” the 2020 election was stolen, and that “President Trump probably would be president right now if we had election integrity.”
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is the last line of defense when it comes to attacks against our democracy, vetoing voter suppression bills sent to him by the GOP-majority legislature. Tim Michels, on the other hand, wouldn’t rule out signing a bill to overturn Wisconsin’s 2020 presidential election results.

"Need to see the details," he said after multiple questions on the subject. — A.J. Bayatpour (@AJBayatpour) July 12, 2022
Would Michels try to accomplish the illegal and impossible task of retroactively “decertifying” the 2020 election—something Trump is still pushing? Michels says “everything will be on the table.”
x Michels says election integrity will be his top priority as governor
He doesn't say whether he supports decertification of the 2020 presidential race
He has said both that decertification was not a priority, but also said "everything will be on the table." — Scott Bauer (@sbauerAP) August 5, 2022
When asked if he would, as governor, certify the 2024 election if Trump loses it, Tim Michels—now the Wisconsin GOP nominee for Governor—refused to answer.
And when asked, during the last GOP gubernatorial candidate town hall, whether or not Trump did anything wrong on January 6, his answer was chilling: “I don't think he did anything wrong.”
x Tim Michels won't rule out overturning the 2020 election, ignores the evidence about Donald Trump’s involvement in January 6th, and doesn't support common sense measures to keep communities safe. This is radical and wrong. pic.twitter.com/2euGJKS7tu — Team Tony Evers (@TeamTonyEvers) August 3, 2022
Wisconsin, remember, was the tipping-point state in Biden’s victory in 2020, when Democratic Governor Tony Evers resolutely defended free, fair, and safe elections. And it was Trump’s tipping-point state in 2016, when Scott Walker tried to shut voters out.
