On Thursday afternoon, 37-year-old Nicole Linton, a travelling nurse from Houston, was going southbound on South La Brea Avenue in the Windsor Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles, at a speed of 100 mph (160 km/h). As a result of Linton’s reckless driving, a sudden fiery car crash has occurred on the intersection of La Brea and Slauson. Linton ran a red light in her Mercedes before slamming into several vehicles, including a Nissan Altima and an SUV, and crashing into a light pole thereafter.

As a result of the fiery crash, at least six people have lost their lives, and eight people were injured.
Images from SkyFOX show at least two burned vehicles, one of which split in half after crashing into a pole. Images show people being treated at the scene and being placed on gurneys to be taken to the hospital. All eight patients were transported to the UCLA Medical Center, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Seven patients were released after being triaged in the emergency department Thursday night and one patient was admitted in fair condition. One CHP officer described the crash scene to reporters on Thursday afternoon. "It almost looks like a war zone," he said. "It was just really bad. It was just really, really graphic, really gruesome with people everywhere screaming," a witness told FOX 11.
Som of the victims who succumbed as a result of the crash included a pregnant woman, her boyfriend, and her infant son. 23-year-old Asherey Ryan was eight-and-a-half months pregnant when she was riding with her boyfriend and her son to go to a prenatal checkup. The other victims have yet to be publicly identified.
She said her sister, who she called "Rey Rey," had just left their home and was heading to her third trimester check-up when the crashed happened. "She literally walked out the door, because we all live together, and she said, 'Ok, I love y'all. I'm going to my doctor's appointment to check up on the baby,'" Kerr said. Kerr said she offered to watch Alonzo but Ryan wanted to take her son for a car ride. "When I look at my son I see my nephew," Kerr said. "My nephew was my son's first best friend. My nephew was like my son's brother. All they know were each other." In addition, Kerr said 24-year-old Reynold Lester, the father of Ryan's unborn baby, was in the car.

As for Nicole Linton herself, she was held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, about a 20-30 minute drive southeast of the crash site with light traffic, after being treated for her injuries at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre. Linton initially faced a $2 million bond, but it was increased to $9 million. Initially, it was believed that Linton had alcohol in her system. However, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón stated that authorities have yet to find evidence of alcohol use, although the investigation is still ongoing. Nicole Linton had her first appearance in court on Monday, where a judge ordered for Linton to be held without bail; the previously given bail will be reviewed next Monday. Linton’s request for $300,000 bail was denied.
During Monday's bail hearing, Linton's defense attorney claimed there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol in her system and alluded to "profound mental health issues" as a potential reason behind the crash. A prosecutor said she had been involved in "a number of prior collisions throughout the United States" including a 2020 crash in which two vehicles were totaled and people were injured.
