Sculpture or no? [1]

Is this simply a building or is it sculpture?

More than four decades ago, after having a new pond dug, I mentioned to my older brother that I intended to build a small building beside it. He didn’t think much of my idea and tried to discourage me by saying that my cows would probably turn over any small building I put there.

The cows haven’t harmed this building in any way over the years. It’s made of hand mixed concrete and field rock. Part of my intent in building it was to provide nest sites for swallows. Although swallows have turned it down as a nest site, I have no regrets for building it and have begun to wonder of late if I could add it to my sculpture resume.

I have made wood sculpture as a sideline to farming throughout my working life and in my ‘retirement’ am moving toward working at sculpture full time. The more artwork I have time to make, the less certain I am about the very definition of art
