I think there is a serious liberal argument for lowering the bar for secession from the union. The only other recourse to Civil War in a nation so riven is to let people vote w/ their feet and let them make any kind of hell for themselves they want...AFTER all the remaining Americans have been secured and made whole. Obviously people get funny when you mention American Balkanization. It's chief virtue is that it preserves the Constitution and weakens Conservatives as their states (hopefully) peel off. Removal of those voices permits progress to be made. Not to mention being able to deport misbehaving racists.
Yeah. Been thinking about this awhile. Their economic theory and the fact that there are more bullets than sticks of butter means it will get Lord of the Flies really fast. Supply side will be shown for the cargo cult that it is w/ no Post WWII middle class to cannibalize. As good neighbors, we would be obligated to help them, but it is still on them if they adhere to failed policy.
If they attack us, it is not a police but a military matter. Our diplomatic recognition would hinge on them forming a government first, which will cut down on the unnecessary dying earlier than it might otherwise.
Yes, this would be expensive. The alternative is the price of civil war, w/ America paying for the deaths on both sides.
The states most likely to peel off are those that eat more American tax dollars than they pay out. Loss of these parasites will pay a dividend into the future. Even as their silence in the legislative branch permits us to rejoin modernity.
It is also a public health matter. Covid skeptics, gun hoarders (and mass shooters,) anti-regulation zealots and the Earth 2 MAGA Q consensus reality adherents will no longer be our problem.
If your eye offends you, you must pluck it out rather than be damned by it to paraphrase Christ. Better that we host breakaway nations within our borders than have these assholes destroy the federal govt and what little of the nation that will be left. Those are exactly the stakes we are talking about.
Let them have their ethno nations. Let them have Trump as their King or Ayatollah or whatever. We are far better off w/ out them.
The first civil war was worth it because it freed the slaves. Since then it has been a strained marriage because one of the partners is abusing and killing the children. A divorce is the right move now.
Anyone else got any ideas?
