Biden Got it Done [1]

It was looking pretty bleak for the President’s agenda and for Democratic prospects in the midterms not so long ago. In elections timing is important, things can change overnight and you want to be peaking going into election day. The unexpected resurrection of Biden’s agenda which the media and the Republicans had declared dead and buried culminating in the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act could not have come at a better time.
Despite the fact that Manchin and Senema got to take a hatchet to the bill, it remains the most ambitious piece of climate, health, and economic legislation in recent history.
So what does the President’s report card look like so far?
First up was beating Trump in the elections. If Trump had won it would have been game over for democracy and the American experiment.
Win the election — check.
Trump had left our alliances in taters. Europe was divided and demoralized. Putin and his army of nativist, racist fascists were on the rise in almost every European country. Putin assumed the stage was set for the annexation of Ukraine. Putin saw Biden as a weak, doddering non-entity.
Turned out that Biden completely outfoxed Putin. Taking the unprecedented step of releasing the intelligence that Putin would invade when no one believed it. Biden put the European alliance back together stronger than its been since the end of WW2 and led the allies in supplying Ukraine with what they needed to defeat Putin’s invasion.
In addition to repairing our relations with Europe. Biden is improving relations with our neighbor to the South:
Reestablish the USA on the world stage and repair the damage that Trump did — check.
The job numbers are proof that the economy is miraculously surviving pandemic, war, and a very long-in-the-tooth economic expansion long overdue for a correction. Most of that is out of the President’s control but the buck still stops at the oval office. Fair or not.
While all that is great. Voters need to see how Democrats have actually improved their lives and that Democrats can deliver on bread and butter issues if entrusted with power. The Inflation Reduction Act delivers in spades on that score.
Deliver on domestic issues — check.
It’s hard to see how a President could have done much more than what Biden has managed given what he has to work with. I didn't vote for Biden in the primary and have never been a fan. But credit where credit is due when it counted, Joe got it done.
In addition, the Republicans are now, to the horror of most Americans, showing their true colors. While Democrats deliver against all odds on what voters want. The Republicans are hell-bent on taking away a woman's right to choose, social security, medicare, and even the right to vote. Biden might soon be adding to his accomplishments by presiding over a historic governing party win in the midterms.
I imagine, just like Putin, Republicans thought Biden was no match for them. They were probably thinking they had the midterms in the bag and Biden was toast. oops...
