Enid is the middle lake of the three large bodies of water in Mississippi. Here is a map to give you a location of the lake and my point of observations (the red dot).
I am exploring many of the sites I’ve not been to in order to expand my opportunities of wildlife photography. More of my experience after the pause.
The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns. We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.
Here is the satellite view of the Water Valley, MS. boat landing there I looked for new items to photograph. The image shows the lake when the water level was low (a Spring time ritual of draining the lakes). The next image will show more detail of the specific site.
I decided to video the area to give a better feel for the site. Here is the 33 second film of that cove.
After a while, a Great Egret walked into the scene. I was able to get this 1 minute film of it’s hunt.
A short time passed and the dog and Egret left. There was a motion to my right (very close). I turned slowly and began filming. Here are the results in 2 minutes of film.
I left after thirty minutes of filming.
male juvenile Green Heron
I was able to record the adults as I was leaving the area. The camera could not maintain focus but recorded the warning call very well.
As I walked back to the truck I spotted my Bug of the Day. This is a female Carolina Spreadwing Damselfly (Lestes concinnus). She was glowing against the rocky shore.
I am sorry to announce that I won’t be able to chat until I return from work. Enjoy yourselves until then. Be well and stay curious.
