Hello, this is RWPOINTWOMAN, and I am slowly learning Japanese. I am using Nihongoal for instruction, Anki for my flashcard deck, and mostly Easy Japanese for immersion. Easy Japanese is a news reader app and the only one I use. I usually only read the Easy articles.
My vocabulary runs the gamut between JLPT N5, which is the least advanced, and JLPT N1, which is the most, but it's small. I stopped using JapanesePod101 when I realized that the Level 3 official curated path covered almost nothing but material already covered in Level 2, which is where I was at the time. I had a spaced-repetition flashcard deck there and I couldn't take it with me. What I've got now is an Anki deck with 529 words, my memories, Nihongoal, YouTube channels I watch for immersion, my Darker than Black DVDs, Netflix, and a news reader that provides Mazii dictionary definitions for most unconjugated words within its articles.
My grasp of grammar is best for N5 and worst for N1, but my N2 isn't that great, either. There are grammar entries embedded in the area towards the bottom of the Easy articles, though.
My writing practice is nearly nonexistent and kanji study and speaking practice with a friend have been put on hold.
I can still do this, though.
On with the show!

Aomori Nebuta Festival stopped for 2 years by COVID-19, starts on August 2. (NHK)
Aomori Nebuta Festival is a famous summer festival of the Tohoku region. It has not been held in 2 years due to the pandemic. The plan this year is to run it from August 2-7. "Nebuta" are lanterns are made to look like things such as samurai using beautiful colors. The nebuta are place on 17 wheel tree pedestals and paraded around town. A nebuta maker said, "I am relieved that I was able to make nebuta. I want these to be seen and inspire bright feelings like bravery and hope." This year, the festival will be conducted with care taken to avoid spreading the novel coronavirus. In a normal year, anyone can dance around the nebuta, but this year there will be designated dancers. Additionally, festival-goers cannot walk or talk while eating.

Otsuka Foods to hike up prices of 41 items including curry. (Asahi)
Otsuka Foods is raising the price of things like mineral water and retort packs. 41 items will have their prices raised starting with the October 1. Crystal Geyser 500 mL PET bottle will have its price increased from ¥110 to ¥129 and carbonated drinks like Match and Java Tea will have the highest price increase of ¥23. Additionally, they are also raising the price of 12 items including Bon Curry and Ginza Rokusantei retort. The main causes are the steeply increased cost of raw ingredients and the increased cost of logistics.
That's all for this week.
