NY Times slips badly [1]

I have long been an admirer of The NY Times. It is not a perfect news organization, but I believe it has high standards for integrity and sticking to the facts. I am distressed to see a downward trend in the quality of writings, both in what is being said and how it is being said (but the latter is for another rant).
Case in point is today’s (Aug 4) lead article on the situation in Ukraine. The first sentence says “In the early phase of the war in Ukraine, shortages of soldiers and problems with equipment forced Russia to narrow its mission, abandon its assault on Kyiv and focus its offensive on the east.” What nonsense! That is not even close to factual. Russia failed to take Kyiv because of poor planning and strategy and poorer execution. They started with 180,000 troops and equipment they had been exercising on the Ukraine border for weeks and weeks. They also failed because they suck at logistics.
I encourage you to read the article (www.nytimes.com/...)
because it goes on and on with descriptions of the current Russian problem set like it is new news, when, in fact, “the pause” came and went a week ago or more. And wasn’t a pause at all.
Almost every major assertion in the article is based on “facts” that are incorrect, or at least mis-understood. Arrrrrrggggghhhh.
I vented here because the Times provided no means for anyone to challenge or correct their bad reporting. The editor who allowed that bad piece of work to lead today’s paper should visit the woodshed. Shame on the NYT.
