See also Anti-Capitalist Meetup: The Unbalanced Budget Amendment's Time is Coming. I, and also professional economists, are arguing for putting Keynes into the Constitution, with mandatory investments during any recession. At the same time, we argue that we should have mandatory tax hikes, brakes on markets, and other measures to burst bubbles before they become seriously dangerous.
Cue more screaming.
Regular News
See, here’s the deal. We’re getting stuff done.
x NEW: The Senate has approved Finland and Sweden's membership in NATO by a vote of 95-1-1.
Rand Paul (R) voted PRESENT.
Josh Hawley (R) voted NO. — Brian Tyler Cohen (@briantylercohen) August 3, 2022
Kansas! Taiwan! Zawahiri! The burn pit bill! Sinema?? More Subpoenas! More Deleted Messages!
Yes, you have heard about that. Hot stuff, but not news to us today.
Videos are coming out of women jumping up and down when the Kansas amendment result was called. Also hugging, crying, cheering, applauding... I can’t do anything with videos today, so I hope someone will add one in the comments.
The hits, the own goals, the self-owns, the self-burns from the Wrong-Wingers just keep coming, don’t they?
It’s just ordinary karma coming to those who don’t believe in it, in the usual way.
Balls and Strikes
Alex Jones’s lawyers accidentally sent the entire contents of his cell phone to the lawyers for the plaintiffs. So they caught him in a major lie on the stand. The Jury has the case now. We can expect a referral on a criminal complaint of perjury. Also the judge slapped Jones down repeatedly. And the financial statements for InfoWars were on the phone, too, so Jones can’t lie about being broke during the penalty phase of the trial.
x BREAKING: A federal judge has ruled that House Republicans MUST agree to security screenings at the Capitol, including a search for weapons.
GOOD!!! — Jon Cooper (@joncoopertweets) August 1, 2022
See, here’s the deal. The Constitution says that each House of Congress makes its own rules, and nobody, not even the courts, can say them nay.
Florida clergy lawsuits say abortion ban violates religious freedom
The plaintiffs are three rabbis, a United Church of Christ reverend, a Unitarian Universalist minister, an Episcopal Church priest and a Buddhist lama. They asked the court to declare that the state's abortion law violates Florida and U.S. constitutional protections for freedom of speech and religion.
x Just In: A federal judge just determined that 3 cases seeking to hold Donald Trump liable for damages sustained from the January 6th insurrection can proceed. — Really American 🇺🇸 (@ReallyAmerican1) August 3, 2022
OUR President
See, here’s the deal.
Joe wants to be their President, too, a sentiment that goes back to Thomas Jefferson with the Federalists, but our Wrong-Wingers insist that Joe isn’t, and you can’t make them say he is. Just like the Federalists, who did themselves in and left government to the Jeffersonians for 18 straight years, the Era of Good Feeling.
Biden Wins @BidensWins Keeping score of President Biden’s wins. The largest online community of President Biden’s supporters.

x Today I'll sign a second Executive Order to address the reproductive health care crisis since Roe was overturned.
It will support women traveling for abortion care, ensure providers comply with the law when women require medical care, and advance maternal health research. — President Biden (@POTUS) August 3, 2022
Cue Wrong-Wing jumping up and down, screaming, and of course lawsuits. Lather, rinse, repeat.
x Hell of a day for the Biden admin:
PACT Act passes in Senate
Lowest uninsured rate in HISTORY
75th judge confirmed
Yemen truce extended
NO wins in KS
DOJ sues Idaho over abortion law
400 seperated families reunited
18th Op Fly Formula mission approved
Gas drops 49th day in a row — What Biden Has Done (@What46HasDone) August 3, 2022
That’s only 8 million uninsured, a triumph, but still disgusting. We can fix that in 2023, of course. I am going to assume that the Kansas result is fairly predictive for the midterms, and I am not going to take any Doom&Gloomer guff over it. The polling in Kansas drastically undercounted the NO voters, D, I, and even R.
It turns out that voter registration in Kansas was up by almost 10 times (or 960% in media hypespeak), and that 70% of the new voters there were women. This smashes all Likely Voter screens to flinders. Expect Dem undercounts for the rest of the year, at least.
Let’s try Arizona. A recent YouGov poll says that Arizona voters would rather vote for a generic Republican over a generic Democrat by 5%. But there are no generic Republicans. They are a myth. So when you ask the real question, you get very different answers.
Pro-choice Democrat 60% Anti-Abortion Republican 27%
A national poll from Monmouth says that respondents prefer Democratic control of Congress by a margin of 50-43%, the biggest lead for Democrats all year. And those, too, are generic Ds and Rs, not this giant sack full of metaphorical weasels.
Missing Text Messages
See, here´s the deal.
First it was the Secret Service, then DHS, and now DoD.
First on CNN: Jan. 6 text messages wiped from phones of key Trump Pentagon officials

My thanks to Kosack Fffflats for asking how countercyclical, Keynesian policies would work during the current boom, and making me think, not only about these issues, but also about how to explain them clearly and succinctly enough.
