Around 1999 in Madison county Il. a heroic young woman named Julie Mehring defied an unjust order from an arrogant judge and was jailed immediately for about a year on contempt of a small local court order.

An American man was imprisoned 14 years without trial in a divorce case for not revealing assets the judge believed he was hiding despite not proving they existed.

Chelsea Manning was jailed for a year and fined a quarter million dollars without trial for refusing to testify in closed court.

If American citizens can be instantly whisked off to jail for unlimited times and fined unlimited amounts at the whim of a minor local judge by the power of the magic word “contempt” why does a walking...well, shuffling dumpster fire get to defy congress and then remain free while having a trial and sentencing hearing?

It seems that a mere citizen can he jailed instantly on even a trivial contempt charge by the lowliest judge, but if a political figure defies congress he has rights and protections.

Why is this? Can someone explain it to me?
