Unfortunate news for any Star Trek fans here on Daily Kos.

Reports are in that Nichelle Nichols, best known for NCC-1701 Enterprise communications officer Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek: The Original Series, has passed away.

Here is a report from MSNBC with someone mispronouncing “Uhura” in the report and a scene aboard the NCC-1701 Enterprise.

I can imagine people who have the flag of the United Federation of Planets flying it at half-staff.
