The Big Lie resulted in an assault on the U.S. Capital. What is the best way to get the truth out?
South Africa lived under apartheid. Blacks lived in fear for their lives. There were state sponsored mass shootings in Black neighborhoods. Nelson Mandela was in jail for 27 years. And then one day he was not in jail: State sponsored crime against Blacks ceased.
Many in the Black community who lost loved ones could not be blamed for seeking retribution. South Africa could have slipped into a Civil War: But it didn’t.
To stop the hate Archbishop Desmond Tutu presided over a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Those who committed crimes would offer truth, and instead of jail time, they would be free to pursue their lives.
Today, South Africa, like all countries, has problems to overcome, but they are not on the precipice of Civil War. Polls in the United States show close to 50% of Americans fear a Civil War in the USA in the near future.
The Big Lie has divided America. Yet the evidence is in. Those who pay attention to reality know Trump legitimately lost the election. Those who participated in the fake elector scheme, know the evidence is in. Peter Navarro confessed on live TV. The Department of Justice has written documentation plotting the fake elector scheme. Sidney Powell who influenced President Trump, stated no reasonable person would have believed her.
We as nation can put these people on trial. Lock them up, and throw away the key. Folks like me will likely celebrate in the streets. Some who believed The Big Lie might recognize the truth and be embarrassed. Others will not. Those who profit by generating conspiracies where they don’t exist, like Alex Jones and Steve Bannon, will find a way to accuse the innocent and profit.
But if we offer a Truth and Reconciliation Committee, where everyone from Kari Lake, to John Eastman, Mark Meadows, and Trump himself confess, and agree to permanently leave the political arena, we as a nation could gain a lasting peace. Unity might be restored without violence or doubt.
I suggest the targets of the Justice Department be given 24 hours to come clean. Their sworn testimonies could be used against those will not cooperate. And for those who choose not to cooperate: We have no choice, lock them up, and throw away the key.
