I was at Niagara Falls wayyyyy back when I was 12 or 13. Most of what’s here now wasn’t here then.
Some photos from a more recent visit.
For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently in New York.
Niagara Falls State Park. They’re building a new Visitors Center.
There are a number of walking/biking paths
Niagara River
Traffic and pedestrian bridges cross the river into Canada
The Schoellkopf building, part of a hydroelectric plant built in 1905
American Falls
The Niagara Escarpment. The top is dolomite, and the lower layers are softer sandstone. The sandstone is eroded away, but the dolomite shelf remains—and that is what produces the waterfall.
Boarding one of the Maid of the Mist tourist boats
Approaching the Falls
The American Falls
Getting wet (and trying to keep the camera dry)
Horseshoe Falls, on the Canadian side
The original hydroelectric plant, now closed down
View from the Observation Tower
As the falling water erodes away the sandstone, the Falls move slowly upstream. It is now about 7 miles away from its location when originally documented.
