Just now I spent all too much precious time handling a secure mail that I received about a matter where no privacy is needed. I can’t forward it easily. I cannot even re-read it easily or find it in my email inbox with 30 or 40 emails a day. The subject line is hidden!!! It is a bloody waste of time and a monstrosity.
Secure mail introduces opacity and kills transparency and impedes efficient communication.
Bill Clinton was famously advised to ostentatiously make small reforms that people really like… and I think this is a reform most of us would jump at… namely…. allow recipients of a “secure mail” to respond with an Opt Out that will automatically have the offending mail re-sent as a regular email, without needing the intervention of the sender.
