Looking to the future, which path is mine?

The Road Not Taken After Roe Is Gone

Raped, ahead of me the road diverged

Two forks that presaged different treads

One leads to 14-year-old motherhood

As a child raising child fatherless

Financial woes, fights and other burdens

Beyond one's skills to rectify

With lost education and lost future

Where alcohol and drugs take their toll

With hope forsaken and all forlorn

Two children from this world are torn

The other road goes to a border clinic

Where medical care and advise provide

A choice to make and a choice is made

Tissue gone, light years from the breath of life

Thus a female's health and dreams restored

And down that road a family built on love can come

Carl Scott Harker ©2022

The first portion of the title of this poem is taken from Robert Frost’s famous poem: “The Road Not Taken” which begins with the line: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.”
