x Did Josh Hawley really just say that? We’ve heard differently. pic.twitter.com/jt25wZEAf0 — The Democrats (@TheDemocrats) July 23, 2022
HAWLEY: “And I am not backing down. I’m not going to apologize, I’m not going to cower, I’m not going to run from you.” VIDEO: Sir Robin ran away! He bravely ran away, away!
So the first bit from that short compilation was from Hawley’s speech at the conservative Turning Point USA conference in Florida on Friday. It came just a day after the House Jan. 6 committee casually played tetherball with his languorous goober grapes on primetime TV like a couple of ennui-besotted kittens.
Insider:
Republican Sen. Josh Hawley said he won't "run away" from his feud with liberals a day after the January 6 committee presented a video of him running away from a pro-Trump crowd during the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. "And I just want to say to all of those liberals out there and the liberal media, just in case you haven't gotten the message yet, I do not regret it," Hawley said during a speech at Turning Point USA's conference in Florida on Friday. "And I am not backing down. I'm not gonna apologize, I'm not gonna cower, I'm not gonna run from you." Hawley was referencing being called a "traitor" for pushing for "election integrity" last year, referencing his "objection" to certifying the election last year.
So which part doesn’t he regret? Challenging the election results from a free and fair election, raising a defiant fist in front of the gathering mob outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, or frantically running away from that same mob in his Nike AAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE! Jordans?
x Worth remembering: Josh Hawley was the first senator to say he would object to the electoral college, causing a cascade of Ted Cruz-es. And why in God’s holy name would he draw further attention to what has to be one of the most embarrassing episodes of his life?
Well, because he’s a politician, and he still probably thinks he’ll be president one day. And given the GOP’s awful taste in leaders (the old Joe Jackson song “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” often comes to mind these days), he very well could be.
And if he is ultimately chosen as Trump’s successor, you can pretty much bet he’ll be running away from our commitment to Ukraine, too. Which means Vladimir Putin is no doubt hoping he’ll run, too. But in the usual way. Not like the irreedemable dorkwad he is and always will be.
