2022: Kamishibai, 3D learning journals, and safety goggles [1]

Students will be grouped into 6 and the book will be broken down into 6 parts. Each student will have a written script. At the end of the story, they will all speak their parts again. Thanks

I am planning to teach my students about a story-telling art called Kamishibai. We will utilize the book "THe Boy WHo Harnessed the Wind". This will be a fun way to combine literacy and science considering that we are on the weather and climate unit.

belinda ridgewood ended up posting 4 projects last week because the first 3 were completed so quickly! This one has a triple match, so we should be able to help push it across the finish line before the deadline in late August.

PROJECT #2 Project: Tech Savvy in Pre-K Land Resources: Help me give my students science and reading hands on activities in a 21st century world using Alive 3D style. Economic need: An Equity Focus School; nearly all students from low‑income households. Location: A G Hilliard Elementary School, Houston, Texas Total: $684.84 (3x matching funds) Still Needed: $279.84 $147.13 ($50 from us) Deadline: August 29, 2022 Project description by Ms. Searles: Reading can be fun and exciting to learn for little learners but what better way than to bring a 3D learning style to a classroom. 3D animals that pop on the screen will create learners of reading, writing and science, while teaching the young learners to use technology for learning not just entertainment. This interactive learning tool will allow my students to take pictures, practice letters and sounds and create online journals to support reading by scanning a bar code. What better way to start a journey of learning than using tools that adults use everyday. Please help my young learners to use technology to grow their learning. Finally, here’s our long-term project. Almost half of the requested funds will purchase safety goggles for a never-before-funded science classroom that doesn’t have any (aaagh!), and the remaining funds will purchase things like earth science books and an earth model.

PROJECT #3 Project: Just a Few Scientists, with No Resources...Safety First?...Oh Boy Resources: Help me give my students the necessary safety equipment and resources needed in a lab, to increase student productivity and generate higher-order thinking daily in the classroom. Economic need: An Equity Focus School; nearly all students from low‑income households. Location: Mundy’s Mill Middle School, Jonesboro, Georgia Total: $412.12 Still Needed: $412.12 $383.59 Project description by Ms. Monday: With year one almost coming to an end and next year on the horizon. I would like to provide my students with the most accelerated, STEAM-focused, mind-stimulating version of my earth science curriculum. I have realized within my first year of teaching, I lack tons of necessary safety materials and resources. How can we conduct labs? With NO safety goggles! Some requested materials and resources are basic and others a related to earth science. The purpose of this project will give me the resources needed to provide daily stimulating instruction and meet the needs of all my Kinesthetic, Visual, and Auditory learners. DonorsChoose has developed the designation Equity Focus Schools to describe some schools that submit projects. They meet two criteria: at least 50% of students are Black, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander, or multiracial, and at least 50% of students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, the standard measure for school economic need.
