My second ex is 57 today. My first ex is 69 tomorrow. Big excitement, that.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

DNA has been studied from colonial era burials in Campeche. There were a few surprises, although only 10 skeletons were studied.

A Tiny Desk concert, by way of Little Green Footballs. Ludovico Einaudi.

There’s a pit near the entrance to Mammoth Cave that was filled in and is now being excavated.

Getting rid of cafeteria trays apparently helps cut food waste, energy and water costs.

I didn’t see this in The Guardian when it was new. Lionfish leather.

Getty Images is making access free for 30,000 images of black people in the UK and the US. Access is free for “educators, researchers and content creators”.

Doctor Strange and the multiverse in science.

Somebody is studying the history of indigenous sea gardens. Finally.

I get emails from Future Crunch. They collect stories about good news from around the world and sort it into categories. One of the categories is “Saving the World is Cheaper than Ruining It”.

Archaeologists think they’ve identified the lost city of Natounia in Iraq.

I have a dentist appointment in October. I put in a request for if they have a cancellation sooner.

After much thought, I have decided that I have too many friends and relatives with serious health issues to want to risk airline travel to Pittsburgh. I won’t be attending NN22 after all; though I asked that my registration be postponed to 2023. Nor will I be going to my nephew’s wedding in Las Vegas now.

There’s a petition floating around the Internet wanting President Biden to curb executive salaries. I think he can’t do this, unless they’re talking about salaries in the Executive Branch. I’m not sure he can do that by executive order, either.

Called my mother the other day. She was talking about her major health problem at the moment. Her legs have been swelling due to poor circulation. Apparently, her father had the same, and her remaining brother does, too. I believe I’ve mentioned a few times that I take after my mother, and when she mentions some issue, I do something about preventing or alleviating it in myself. She says her doctor recommended compression socks (at least late in the day), and keeping her feet elevated for an hour or two a day. Mom tells me she’s been lying on her couch to read with her feet up on one of the arms. Charlie’s confused — he’s used to having a lap to curl up in. Charlie’s her cat, for the record. I didn’t tell Mom that I’ve been working on this for about the last six months already.

I do need to start walking more. I did on Friday and felt much better the rest of the day.

Also on Friday, the final one of the six pairs of pants I ordered about a month ago showed up — it was the correct length. I was beginning to wonder if the replacement pair for the petite-length ones that I returned would arrive first.

My chiropractor was not at all surprised yesterday when she asked how I was feeling at the end of my appointment and I said I felt like I needed a nap.

Otherwise, in the course of grocery shopping this past week, I accumulated three different kinds of sweet potatoes.

Love you guys!
