Mark Leibovich at one time the chief national correspondent for The New York Times Magazine is based in Washington, where he specializes in national politics, media and profiles of figures in public life. He recently wrote a book entitled “Thank You for Your Servitude: Donald Trump’s Washington and the Price of Submission.” Ezra Kline wrote a review of the book for The Washington Post in which he quotes Leibovich writing:

“the idea [of the book] is to tell the story of this ordeal through the supplicant fanboys who permitted Donald Trump’s depravity to be inflicted on the rest of us.”

These fanboys as Leibovich points out

“… could be this brazen — they could almost get away with destroying American democracy — because a significant percentage of the American people, the folks that we “serious” people keep trying to “understand,” are too lazy and crass and bigoted to care. They just want revenge against the people who propose transgender bathrooms. And by the time Leibovich gets around to Jan. 6, 2021, I’m all in with the Atlantic’s exquisite Caitlin Flanagan, who describes the rioters as “deadbeat dads, YouPorn enthusiasts, slow students, and MMA fans . . . with bellies full of beer and Sausage McMuffins, maybe a little high on Adderall.”

Wow! Good stuff. Kline concludes in the penultimate paragraph of his article:

,

“What a catharsis! After all those hours of trying to figure out why the most pampered and affluent and free people in history — people up to their ears in cellphones and flat-screen televisions and supercharged pickup trucks — are so angry, it feels good to whup the yokels upside the head, doesn’t it? I mean, at a certain point, our oh-so-civilized attempts at “understanding” become indulgence. Our attempt to respectfully bind the national wounds becomes a lesser version of the Republicans’ capitulation to the slovenly ignorance of the Trumpers. Why can’t we be as angry at them as they are at us?”

Terry after reading Kline’s article opined:

“I think Klein has got something. Maybe a good dose of liberal misbehavior, seizing the government and putting all of these nutcases in jail is the way to go. Put Trump and his minions on trial, and close down any social media we don’t like. The victorious UNION occupied the confederacy, jailed Jeff Davis in 1866 and shutdown the Democratic Party for 19 years.

The Dems didn’t win the Presidency until 1884. So why not? We could make Bernie President and Liz Chaney Attorney General . She’d put all the MAGA hooligans in deep security prisons and throw away the key. And all of Hilary’s “deplorables”

would either shut up, be locked up or otherwise disappear.

Review: This primal scream over Trump’s enablers provides only a partial catharsis.

Mark Leibovich chronicles what he calls "the supplicant fanboys who permitted Donald Trump’s depravity to be inflicted on the rest of us."

As for my thoughts on it all — it’s all so yesterday. Yes is is a good thing all this is being uncovered and exposed and even better if the evil doers are punished. We cannot forget, however, the mid-term elections are coming up in less than four months and if the party supporting and sheltering these fanboys gain control of either of the houses of Congress you can kiss this democracy good by. The Democratic Party continues to run on issues the mass of people in the nation may be sympathetic to but often neither care deeply about nor understand. They do understand hate and they do respect those with money and power even if they enslave them. Where are the organizations to mobilize the disaffected? Where is the the so-called liberal media messaging being delivered simply enough that the ignorant and angry understand?

You know, one day Will Rogers was asked what political party he belonged to. He answered:

“I belong to no organized political party, I’m a Democrat.”

There is a war underway in America. A war that will determine the future of democracy and freedom — and perhaps the fate of the world. Those defending Democracy often are poorly led and ill equipped. They do little more than talk and complain. If we are eventually forced to man the barricades to defend liberty and freedom then we have already lost. Remember freedom to those dead set on destroying it means freedom for them and not for you.

(As an aside, — do you know what the belief in the unrestricted right to bear arms means? It means that you have ceased to believe in the rule of law. It means you believe that only by force of arms can you secure what you believe is yours irrespective of law,.)
