Matt Gaetz backed out of a debate he committed to against Democratic rival Rebekah Jones in Navarre, but Jones showed up and allowed her four-year-old daughter to take his place.
A Victory For Rebekah Jones and District 1 Voters

Judge John Cooper of the Florida 2nd Judicial Circuit struck down the emergency injunction to have Rebekah Jones removed from the August 23rd Democratic Primary ballot on Friday, July 23, 2022.
Judge Cooper refused to allow legal maneuvers to disenfranchise the voters of Florida District 1.
The Judge’s pro-democracy stance provided not only a victory for Rebekah Jones, but also for the thousands of voters who have already voted for her as their Democrat Nominee to defeat Matt Gaetz in the upcoming general election.
“This is about election integrity. Every vote must count, and we are seeing to that,” Jones responded.
While our opponents are afraid to talk about solutions for the real challenges Northwest Florida families face - including oversight and accountability for utility companies and their rates, lowering taxes on working families, teacher shortages, affordable housing, and the continued deterioration of our military infrastructure - Jones continues to run on her answers for Florida's most pressing issues.
The last thing Northwest Florida needs is political opponents creating false scenarios to remove candidates from the ballot who are clearly favored to win. The desperation of those who cannot win the vote of the people seeks to steal the ballots already cast, disrupt the democratic process, and question the legitimacy of this election, and that will not stand in the United States.
We look forward to continuing our important work with our community, and to continue working toward making Congressional District 1 a safe, fair and welcoming place to live for all.
